Canterbury latest to offer MP3 walking tales
The city of Canterbury has become the latest to sign up for a series of MP3 walking tours.
The Tourist Tracks tours, which can be downloaded from www.tourist-tracks.com and then transferred to an iPod or other MP3 player, are already available in five other UK cities: London (Westminster and City of London), Cambridge, Oxford, Bath and Brighton.
Canterbury will go live before the end of July and are likely to comprise two or three walking tours, each lasting less than an hour.
The download will cost £5 and there is also a CD version, available via mail order, for £7 including postage. Canterbury City Council, in return for helping to promote the product, will receive a commission on each tour sold.
Tourist Tracks founder Tim Gillett said: “We are delighted to hear that Canterbury City Council has agreed to sign up with Tourist Tracks and we look forward to creating an interesting series of walks of this classic English city. This will be the seventh product in the Tourist Tracks range and we are sure our walks will do justice to such a magical destination as Canterbury.”
Meanwhile, VisitLondon.com, the official tourism portal for the UK capital, has started retailing the two Tourist Tracks London tours, City of London and City of Westminster. Visitors to the VisitLondon.com site can download the tours direct along with other products such as theatre tickets, Thames cruises, and BA London Eye flights.
Gillett added: “VisitLondon.com is seen as a key promotional facility for the city of London and we are thrilled that our MP3 walking tours are now available there. We are expecting our products to become available on many other third-party retail sites in coming weeks.”
