Cape Town the Place to Be Seen in 2009
Dublin, Ireland: Argus Car Hire’s forward bookings for 2009 show the South African city of Cape Town to be the “it” destination this year. Compared to last year, the car hire company saw a substantial increase in bookings for Cape Town over Christmas, which has spilled over into February and April, when schools everywhere will be breaking for half-term and Easter holidays. Early booking patterns also show that more travellers are taking longer breaks and opting into special offers on 7-day rentals in a bid to save money.
Meanwhile, the most searched for destinations by those looking to book their week in the sun closer to home were found in the ever popular Spain. Traditional favourites Alicante, Malaga and Murcia are already showing an early lead in the summer 2009 holiday stakes, while there has also been steady interest in Faro, Portugal.
Commenting on the booking trend, Argus brand manager Emma Coakley says:
“Cape Town is a fantastic destination that offers unrivalled scope for touring and scenic drives, throw in guaranteed sunshine from November to May and you’ve got the perfect escape. In our experience, during the boom times, the trend was always towards shorter city breaks in New York and Europe’s capitals, but now that the economy has taken a downturn, European travellers are looking to maximise their holiday experience by increasing their stay at long-haul destinations. Savvy travellers know that 7-day bookings are where the best value for money lies.”
This January, Argus Car Hire is offering Cape Town car hire from as little as EUR100 (£93) per week*.
*Price quoted is based on the 7-day rental of a mini/economy-sized vehicle from January 24th – January 31st.
