Capital Region gearing up for America’s biggest birthday celebration
In 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary of independence, and the excitement is building.
Recently, representatives from the Capital Region’s varied destinations gathered in London to promote this monumental event, highlighting the unique experiences international visitors can look forward to.
A themed supper event for travel media showcased the best of Maryland, Baltimore, Northern Virginia, Frederick, and the National Air and Space Museum.
Each destination showcased its historical significance and attractions, from Maryland’s rich past to Baltimore’s cultural melting pot.
Northern Virginia emphasized its pivotal role in the American Revolution (and wine), while Frederick higlighted its intimate historical charm.
The National Air and Space Museum revealed plans for exhibitions celebrating 50 years of innovation.
A Nationwide Celebration
Organised by the Semi quincentennial Commission, America250 is set to be one of the largest commemorations in US history.
With events planned in all states, the Eastern Seaboard will shine as the birthplace of the original 13 colonies.
Virginia will host events like Sail250 Virginia, featuring tall ships and military vessels, alongside museum exhibitions.
The London visit culminated in the supper event that was a call to action for UK travel trade partners and media, inviting them to join the patriotic festivities, explore historical landmarks, and experience America’s diverse culture within the Capital Region.
