Captain of New York crash ferry claims mechanical failure
Reuters and other news sources are reporting that the captain and crew of the Seastreak ferry that crashed at a lower Manhattan dock on Wednesday said the reverse thrusters failed as the ship got close to the pier.
Jason Reimer, the 36-year-old captain said he tried to alternate between control consoles to force the propellers to work in reverse and that during that time the diesel engines failed.
Results on drug tests taken by the five-man crew are still to come but the crew has tested negative for alcohol. The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing its investigation.
