Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism
The 6th Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development has been set for the Habana Libre Hotel in Havana, Cuba, 27-30 April. The conference is being organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTA) with the collaboration of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the Government of the Republic of Cuba. The theme of this year’s conference is how to keep the right balance between land sea encounters, which sponsors say is relevant because so much Caribbean development converges on coastal areas. Most Caribbean states and territories are small islands, and in the case of the continental countries of the region, a large percentage of their population and economic activities are located near or on Caribbean coasts. A series of national, regional and international best practices or case studies will be presented at the conference to analyze the sustainable development of tourism in coastal areas. The country of Cuba will be among those case studies. Report by David Wilkening
