New website unveiled to share information and technical issues

Last week’s Caribsave symposium, held at Merton College Oxford has been hailed a big success and a new website has been unveiled to share information and technical issues.
Delegates included representatives of Caribbean Tourism Ministries; academics; the Caribbean Tourism Organisation; donors and development agencies; development banks including the World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank; environmental organisations such as the Nature Conservancy, WWF, the Rainforest Alliance and Conservation International.
The two day symposium included sessions on understanding, adaptation and mitigation of climate change effects and development. Presentations were made on scenarios operating in the pilot Caribbean countries. Break out workshops shared experiences to provide plans for the future.
Specific presentations incorporating workshop results included those made by;
- Dr Stepan Uncovsky of GTZ (the German technical donor organisation);
- Mohammad Rafiq of the Rainforest Alliance;
- Dr Stefan Gossling of Lund University;
- Dr Archalus Tcheknavonian Asenbauer of the United Nations Development Program;
- Amal-Lee Amin of the Inter-American Development Bank
Workshop break out groups dealt with the following subjects:
- Biodiversity
- Communications, Education, Awareness
- Coastal Zones
- Infrastructure
- Capacity Building
- Gender
- Finance and incentives
The new website www.caribsave.org was unveiled as a ‘work in progress’ for c o-operators to share and manage both technical and other information.
