Carlson Rezidor points for TSA PreCheck fee

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group hopes to help ease the frustrations of its elite members and other flyers stuck at long airport security lines.

The company’s Club Carlson rewards program is the first to offer members the option to redeem points for TSA PreCheck enrolment.

From July 1, members can exchange 65,000 Gold Points for an authorization code for the $85 TSA PreCheck application fee.

"It is exciting to be the first hotel rewards program to offer TSA PreCheck as a redemption option. This enhancement is also timely as summer travel ramps up and security lines at airports increase," Carlson vice president of global integrated marketing communications Alissa Montbriand said in a statement.

Carlson members get 20 Gold Points for each dollar spent on qualifying room bookings and food and beverage charged to their room bill.

"Partnerships of this nature allow more travelers to experience the benefits of TSA Precheck while reducing checkpoint wait times," said TSA’s chief marketing officer John Sammon.

Earlier this year Alaska Airlines became the first carrier to allow the redemption of air miles for the TSA PreCheck enrolment fee.

The one-time PreCheck program enrolment fee give five years of expedited screening at the nation’s airports.

There have been calls for the agency to lower the fee to encourage more travelers to enrol as airport screening lines have steadily grown to an average 90 minutes or more at many airports.
