Carlson Wagonlit adds weight to anti-APD lobby

Business travel giant Carlson Wagonlit Travel has added its weight to industry opposition to hikes in Air Passenger Duty.

CWT UK has sent a letter to its clients detailing the 2009 and 2010 increases in APD.

It calculates that clients will collectively see a 41% increase in their APD payments, a rise of £9 million a year.

This will result in the total APD they pay reaching £30 million a year  in 2011.

UK and Ireland executive vice-president Andrew Waller said: “CWT is providing its clients with the information they need to understand what the increases will mean for them.

“CWT believes that the proposed rises in Air Passenger Duty will impede economic recovery without delivering environmental benefits and we will oppose them vigorously.’’

CWT has also alerted its 1,400 UK staff, encouraging them to sign a petition on the Number 10 website and contact their MP to voice their concerns.
