Carnival Cruise Line deploying larger ship in Charleston in 2019
Carnival Cruise Line is beefing up capacity in Charleston with newer, larger ship Carnival Sunshine in 2019.
The 3,002-passenger Carnival Sunshine begins a year-round schedule of four- and five-day cruises from May 2019
The ship’s open-air attractions include a WaterWorks aqua park and SportSquare recreation area along with a three-deck-high adults-only retreat.
"With its strong tourism appeal, Charleston is one of our most popular homeports and we’re delighted to build upon this success with the deployment of Carnival Sunshine," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
"Carnival Sunshine not only provides guests sailing from Charleston with a newer, larger ship with so much to see and do but also underscores our commitment to our year-round operations from this port."
The cruise program kicks off on May 18, 2019 and Carnival is targeting 220,000 passengers annually from the port.
Four-day sailings will call at Nassau and five-day voyages will add a call at the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay.
In December 2019 The Sunshine will embark on a 11-day Carnival Journeys round trip cruise calling at St. Thomas, Aruba, Bonaire, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay.
In May 2019 Carnival Ecstasy, which currently sails from Charleston, will move to Jacksonville, FL for year-round four- and five-day cruises.
