Carnival offers shore trip price guarantee

Thursday, 16 Jan, 2014 0

In the face of increasing competition from online tour companies targeting the cruise market, Carnival Cruise Lines are launching a best price guarantee for all its shore excursions.

The cruise line claims it is "the only guarantee of its kind in the cruise industry."

Carnival is offering to refund cruisers 110% of the difference in price for identical excursions or tours found elsewhere online.

The price difference refund will be paid in the form of a shipboard credit.

Customers are requested to submit a claim form detailing the lower online price which can be submitted before or during the cruise, and all claims will be handled within 48 hours.

To be eligible for the refund, a number of conditions need to be satisfied.

Shore excursions found online must exactly match the Carnival booked tour, including the same duration and dates, and cannot be part of a membership program, a corporate or group rate, or other discounted price.

The company believes a price guarantee will offer peace of mind and help snare more first-time cruisers – a key market for all cruise lines.

"Our research shows that many people including first-time cruisers are interested, yet concerned as to whether or not they are getting the best deal. The best price guarantee program will assure our guests they are getting both the highest quality and the best value on all of our tours," said Mico Cascais, vice president of tour operations for Carnival.

The shore excursion business is a competitive one – yet still very lucrative for both the cruise lines and the independent tour companies they work with in port.

The best price guarantee will be available on all Carnival ships sailing out of North America.
