Carnival has just announced it has ordered the construction of two new 3,600 passenger ships which will join its Princess Cruises brand.
The ships will ply the waters from spring 2013 and spring 2014 and at 139,000 tons each they will be the largest in the Princess Cruises fleet.
The operator says it will reveal further details of the Fincantieri-built ships nearer to completion.
The order follows two years of standstill as the global recession hit the tourism industry hard. Carnival was the only cruise operator to place an order for a ship in 2009.
