Carnival reveals room-service rethink
Carnival Cruise Line is reassessing its decision to ditch free room service and replace it with a la carte pricing.
The rethink comes after a wave of criticism from cruisers.
While it hasn’t abandoned the idea yet, it will be ‘making some adjustments’, according to a social media post by brand ambassador John Heald.
Carnival’s original timeline was to introduce a new room service menu this month.
The new menu was to have individual items priced from $2 to $5, except for continental breakfast which will remain free.
"I had previously told you about changes to our room service offerings that would go into effect in January. I wanted to let you know that we are in the process of making some adjustments to that plan to balance the interests of our guests with our efforts to reduce food waste costs," Heald said in a Facebook post.
"For the time being then, there will be no charges until we finalize a plan."
Heald’s Facebook page was bombarded with negative comments after he announced the end of free room service, with many users saying a per-item charge would result in much higher bills compared to rival lines like Norwegian which charges a fixed room service fee of $7.95.
