Carnival to homeport trio of ships at Galveston in 2015
Carnival Cruise Line will homeport the Carnival Freedom ship at Galveston from next year, becoming the first line to deploy three ships year round at the Texas port.
The news comes just a week after Royal Caribbean also announced its 2015 expansion plans for Galveston.
The Carnival Freedom joins the Magic and Triumph at the port for an annual capacity for 600,000 cruise passengers from Galveston.
Before that, the 3,000-passenger Freedom will undergo a planned dry dock makeover, adding Fun Ship amenities including a Camp Ocean kids’ club and F&B enhancements.
Carnival Freedom’s inaugural voyage from Galveston sets sail on February 15, 2015 to Mexico and Belize and will then will then operate 7-night cruises to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Florida and Mexico.
Freedom will also offer some 4 and 5-night sailings to Mexico during fall and winter 2015-2016
.
Carnival Cruise Lines’ CEO Gerry Cahill said it will represent a five-fold increase in passengers since its first deployment in Galveston in 2000.
"We are extremely grateful for the support of our travel agent partners who have played a key role in the growth of our Texas cruise program," said Cahill.
