Carnival warns first cruise to Cuba could be delayed
Carnival has warned that it might have to delay the first of its Fathom cruises to Cuba in a row over whether Cuban natives will be allowed on the crossing.
Initially the cruise line banned Cuban-born travellers from booking places on the first sailing as the communist Caribbean island still doesn’t allow Cuban-born travellers to visit by sea.
However, following accusations of discrimination in the US, Carnival has since decided to accept bookings from Cubans on its first cruise to Cuba onboard the Adonia.
In a letter to Carnival employees, chief executive Arnold Donald said the~company was negotiating~with the Cuban government to change its policy.
It said that if Cuba hasn’t removed the ban by the ship’s scheduled departure date of May 1, the first sailing will be delayed.
“This issue has been a top priority for us, and our team has been working hard and continues to work hard to reach a positive outcome,” Donald said.
