Celebrity Cruises names first two Edge-class ships

Celebrity Cruises has revealed the names of its two new ships.
 
Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Beyond will be the first in the new Edge class of ship which will be built at STX shipyard in France.
 
The vessels were named as steel cutting took place for Celebrity Edge which will be delivered in the fall of 2018.
 
Celebrity Beyond will be completed in spring 2020, followed by the third and fourth Edge-class ships in 2021 and 2022.
 
"Edge Class is destined to be a trailblazer in modern luxury travel. The new ships will be on the cutting edge of innovation and the leading edge of design, so the ship names are spot on and offer a sense of how Celebrity Cruises is looking into the future," said Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO of parent Royal Caribbean Cruises.
 
The 117,000 gross ton ships have a capacity for 2,900 passengers.
