Celestyal Cruises pulling out of Cuba
Europe-based Celestyal Cruises is pulling out of the Cuba market and refocusing efforts in its home market of the Aegean Sea.
The Greek operator will shift Celestyal Crystal to Greece to meet demand for year-round sailings in the Aegean.
"Once the season is complete, Celestyal Crystal will return to Greece to perform the highly anticipated new Idyllic Aegean cruise program. Our focus for 2018 is shifting to meeting demand for Greece with the goal of year-round sailings in the Aegean as record numbers of travelers continue to look to our home waters for the travel experience of a lifetime," the line said in a statement.
Celestyal Crystal has been based seasonally in Havana and operated by Celestyal since 2015 offering the only round-Cuba itineraries in the market.
It currently sails week-long cruises around the coastline with calls in Santiago and Cienfuegos as well as a stop at Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Its final Cuba sailing departs on February 12 but the line says it may return to Cuba in 2020 ‘depending on many factors’.
