Charleston judge scuttles cruise terminal project
A judge on Thursday voided the permit for a new cruise terminal being planned for Charleston, South Carolina.
The proposed $35 million project planned to convert an old warehouse into a 100,000-square-foot cruise-ship terminal.
The decision was a victory for local environmental groups, who fear that an increase in cruise ships will threaten Charleston’s beautiful historic district and bring unwanted water pollution, noise and traffic.
South Carolina officials want to bring more cruise business to Charleston, which has been the home port for Carnival Cruise Lines’ Fantasy since 2010.
