Chicago O’Hare getting first regular A380 service
Chicago’s O’Hare Airport is getting its first regular superjumbo service next year.
UK flag carrier British Airways will replace one of its daily Boeing 747 flights with the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger jet from May 8, 2018.
Significantly increasing daily capacity on the Chicago-London route, BA’s A380s accommodate 469 passengers in four classes, including 14 first-class seats and 97 lie-flat business seats.
"The addition of the Airbus A380 for direct service from O’Hare to London is great news for travelers in Chicago and around the world," said Chicago aviation commissioner Ginger Evans.
"Thanks to our partners at British Airways, we will bring more visitors directly to our City on one of the largest and most exciting aircraft in the world."
The superjumbo has touched down at O’Hare before but this will be the first regularly scheduled service.
BA also flies the A380 to Los Angeles and San Francisco and to Boston and Miami on a seasonal basis.
"We’re delighted to be the first airline to offer regularly scheduled service on the A380 between Chicago and London. For those traveling for business to London or customers heading to Europe on vacation, this is an exceptional start to their travels," said Simon Brooks, British Airways’ senior vice president of sales for North America.
