Australia’s largest urban hotel and spa has officially opened, launching new function rooms and unique outdoor venue in the heart of Sydney’s most vibrant entertainment district.

Chifley Hotel & Spa Potts Point last night celebrated its official opening at the same time unveiling Sydney’s most exciting new meeting and event space with more than 300 invited guests.

The hotel, which is part of Constellation Hotel Group, officially opened Orion Terrace, a unique outdoor venue set beneath Potts Points’ famous Coca-Cola sign and overlooking Australia’s most colourful entertainment district.

The second-floor terrace, capable of holding events up to 150 guests, was unveiled at the same time as five sophisticated new function rooms catering for between 12 and 200 people.

Combined, the new spaces create a free-flowing indoor/outdoor meeting and event venue with capacity for up to 300 people surrounded by Sydney’s best 24/7 restaurants, clubs and bars.

To celebrate the official opening, Chifley Hotel & Spa Potts Point hosted a party with more than 300 guests on the Orion Terrace and throughout the five Constellation named function room, as guest were entertained by one of Sydney’s top bands the Martini Club.

Constellation Group General Manager Jonathan Wooller said Chifley Potts Point’s new meeting and event facilities provided Australia’s MICE sector with a fresh and intriguing venue, perfectly positioned to ensure clients enjoyed the best Sydney had to offer.

“This opening party provides a wonderful opportunity for accommodation and event organizers as well as and local attractions and businesses to experience Chifley Hotel & Spa’s exceptional guest rooms, restaurant and bar, and event spaces first hand, including the spectacular Orion Terrace,” Wooller said.

“Chifley Potts Point is extraordinarily well positioned to serve both leisure and business travellers with guests surrounded by some of Sydney’s most exciting entertainment, and just a short walk from the city’s best shopping, top tourist attractions and important business districts.

Body Inc Bathhouse & Spa (formerly the legendary Korean Ginseng Bathhouse), is also opening in the hotel complex in December boasting the largest bathhouse and spa in Australia with over 1500sqm, 40 beds, 7 spas, Steam & Sauna, Couples & VIP Rooms, Hair Studio, Yoga Room as well as a Now & Zen lounge.

Located on the corner of Victoria Street and Darlinghurst Road, Chifley Potts Point opened its doors in February 2008 following a $20 million renovation. The property’s 227-rooms offer views across Sydney Harbour and CBD or over Rushcutters Bay and guests can enjoy the stylish Cursa Restaurant and Delta Bar.

Constellation’s fast-growing network of Chifley Hotels will further expand in 2009 with the opening of new properties in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Due to open in April next year and designed for both leisure and corporate travelers, the 128-room Chifley Doveton will be located just 35 km from Melbourne and three km from Dandenong, now one of Victoria’s fastest growing commercial districts.

Chifley Doveton will be followed by exciting new developments in Newcastle and Townsville, each offering more than 80 stylish apartments.
