Chile hit by forest fires
Forest fires due to unusually high temperatures are burning in Chile causing thousands to flee their homes.
Reports say 18 forest fires are burning in the regions of Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, Maule, Biobío and La Araucanía, due to unusually high temperatures, with 16,000 hectares affected, reports the Foreign Office.
It said the fires are under control but air quality in these areas are poor.
The Chilean capital Santiago has been cloaked in toxic smoke since the weekend, after fumes from the fires drifted across the country.
