China tightens curbs to clamp down on Covid outbreak
China is taking no risks with the current widespread Covid outbreak, placing six million people under travel restrictions and cancelling hundreds of flights in Beijing.
The stubborn outbreak has expanded to at least 14 of China’s provinces, as weddings are cancelled and facilities such as cinemas are closed in the capital. Rail services to and fro affected areas have been stopped.
The situation is ‘serious and complex’ and ‘still developing rapidly’ said Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission. With the Beijing Winter Olympics just 100 days away, authorities are scrambling to eradicate the outbreak as soon as possible.
