Chinese retaliation at US visa policy
China is reportedly ready to implement new visa regulations for visitors from the US, in retaliation for a US move to fingerprint all Chinese citizens wanting non-immigrant visas. The BBC News website quotes the Chinese foreign ministry as saying that US holders of diplomatic passports will have to apply for standard visas, and pay the accompanying fee, when they visit China in a private capacity. Furthermore, some applicants will have to undergo interviews at Chinese consular offices in the USA, and US citizens will no longer be able to apply for a visa on arrival in China. Previously, they had been able to do so at several entry points to the country. The BBC reports that the move was made after Chinese officials asked the US – unsuccessfully -to review its fingerprinting policies. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
