Chinese theme park sparks outrage over bungee jumping pig stunt
A Chinese theme park sparked widespread outrage online for forcing a pig to bungee jump off a 68-metre tower.
Meixin Red Wine Town theme park responded with a public apology for its ‘disgusting PR stunt’
The stunt was carried out to celebrate the opening of the bungee attraction, and showed the pig wearing a cape being pushed off the tower.
"This is a super vulgar marketing tactic," said one social commenter.
Theme park management accepted the wave of criticism it received.
"We sincerely accept netizens’ criticism and apologise. "We will improve marketing of the tourist site, to provide tourists with better services," it said.
Animal rights organisation Peta blasted the park.
"Pigs experience pain and fear in the same ways that we do, and this disgusting PR stunt should be illegal," said Jason Baker, Peta SVP of international campaigns.
