Chinese tour guides in Ballarat brawl
A Chinese tour guide is believed to have been stabbed during a fight with another Chinese tour guide at the Australian gold museum, Sovereign Hill, at Ballarat.
Police say the two guides, both from Melbourne, had a disagreement outside a shop selling gold and began fighting.
According to reports, one of the guides is understood to have pulled out a small pocket knife, stabbing the other man in the calf.
Sovereign Hill staff found the 49-year-old bleeding, before they called an ambulance and police.
Both men were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
Sovereign Hill CEO Jeremy Johnston told the local Courier newspaper that the two guides were leading independent groups of Chinese visitors to the outdoor museum.
“We get 60 to 70,000 mainland Chinese tourists a year; nothing like this has happened before,” he said.
