Chinese tune in to watch Top End adventure
DARWIN – Tourism Queensland may have scooped the pool with its Best Job in the World promotion, but other destinations continue to come up with their own ideas to tap online audiences.
In the Northern Territory, two Chinese women have beaten thousands of hopefuls to be chosen for a Top End travel adventure which will feature on China’s largest TV station – reaching 520 million viewers – as well as online.
A Chinese film crew will follow the adventures of Shu Yan and ski instructor Bei Liu over the next fortnight.
“This campaign has had incredible success in promoting the Territory as a holiday destination to the emerging market of China,” NT tourism minister Chris Burns told AAP.
“There were more than 35 million visitors to the website resulting in the 36,000 competition entries.”
Dr Burns said the NT’s spin-off would result in a five-part documentary of Ms Liu and Ms Yan as they dive with crocodiles, swim in waterfalls and get a taste of indigenous culture in Western Arnhem Land.
