Christchurch pleads: We need you now more than ever
Christchurch & Canterbury Convention Bureau wants event planners to help speed the city’s recovery from the recent earthquake that damaged parts of Christchurch and outlying areas.
“Visitors are being urged to continue with their travel plans to New Zealand and Christchurch and Canterbury,†said bureau manager, Leonie Ashford.
Bob Parker, mayor of Christchurch, in a message to the business events sector, said, “Christchurch is open for business and we need you now more than ever.
“Events and visitors coming to Christchurch will play a critical role in our psychological recovery and our sense of things getting back to normal.”
In an update on damage to infrastructure, the Christchurch CBD cordon has been lifted.
Major event venues, owned and managed by Vbase Ltd on behalf of Christchurch City Council, have no structural damage and are back in full operation and hosting events
Christchurch Convention Centre, Christchurch Town Hall for Performing Arts, AMI Stadium and CBS Arena are open for business.
“Hotels and accommodation are generally in good shape and fast getting back into great shape,†said Parker.
