Clubbing, sex and drugs – the ideal holiday?
A picture of loutish antics of young Brits abroad has been painted by a Foreign Office report.
According to the Sunday Times, the poll of 1,000 people aged 16 to 30 suggests that Britain’s image could be further tarnished as more holidaymakers can afford overseas travel.
It highlighted young people from the West Midlands as being among the most hedonistic in the country. Their ideal break is described as revolving around clubbing, having sex and taking drugs. Planning is minimal and visiting places of cultural interest is way down the agenda, it was reported.
Almost 60% of those from the West Midlands go clubbing while they are abroad, against a national average of 47%. While 15% of young tourists described having sex as a priority, this rose to 29% among those from the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, the report reveals that tourists from the region are more than three times more likely to take drugs than the national average. However, they are the least likely to drink to excess, unlike those from the north west and north east, according to the newspaper.
Beach holidays are the most popular with young Britons, with the highest proportion of sun seekers from the north east. Those from the south east appear to be have the highest interest in culture, with 44% going to historic and cultural sights.
