Coach companies offer reassurance after footage of migrants at Calais
Coach companies have reassured passengers that they are held in a secure area when waiting to board ferries to the UK after reports of migrants surrounding lorries at Calais.
Footage on YouTube, taken by a New Zealand tourist travelling by coach from Calais to Dover, shows migrants trying to smash their way onto a lorry heading to the UK as the coach queues up to board a ferry.
The film features the coach’s tour guide reassuring passengers by telling them not to panic.
But UK coach operators have said that there are strict protocols in place when waiting to board and that they drive to a secure, segregated area.
Huw Williams, marketing director at Leger Holidays, said: "Passenger safety is our priority and whilst we have never been affected by this issue, we want to reassure our customers and agents that Leger Holidays has a very strict protocol in place – when our coaches are in Calais waiting to board, we go to a secure area which is completely segregated."
