Commuters get the wobblies over bumpy ride on Olympics trains

Tuesday, 09 Sep, 2010 0

A fleet of 140mph trains earmarked as key to the London Olympics travel operation are being overhauled after commuters using them said they were too “wobbly”.

The Javelin trains, operated by Southeastern, are used by passengers in London and Kent who pay a premium for their speed but travellers complained when they felt uneasy about the turbulence they were feeling as the carriages shot through the Kent countryside.

Southeastern says the trains, which run on the fast track between St Pancras and the Channel Tunnel, are suffering from “sideways movement” and will be fitted with dampeners to control the wobble.
