Concorde’s last journey nears its end

Saturday, 19 Apr, 2004 0

The last decommissioned Concorde is expected to reach its last resting place later today when it arrives at Scotland’s National Museum of Flight.

The legendary jet arrived in Scotland on Saturday after a journey along the river Thames and up the east coast of Great Britain during last week. Yesterday, after being rolled on to land at Torness, East Lothian, the 110-tonne plane was transported along the A1 road to the museum, just outside Edinburgh.

A welcoming party is scheduled for this evening, with a fly-past, a parachute display, and other entertainment for the large crowds that are expected. The Sky News website reports that once the plane is in the museum, it will be restored before it goes on show.

Concorde’s wings and tail were removed for its final journey though, fittingly, its famous nose-cone remained firmly in place.
