Confusion reigns over location of East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport needs to have its name changed so that people know where it is according to bmibaby md Tony Davis.
Speaking at a North Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce business meeting Mr Davis said that customers are confused about where the airport is situated and added that he has written to the airport’s owners The Manchester Airport’s Group in a bid to resolve the problem which he said is making it difficult for the carrier to attract inbound customers.
Mr Davis said: “We must all be aware that every airport in the world that is named after a region rather than a city, suffers from confusion regarding its location.”
“I think that we can all acknowledge that even those of us who live and work in the East Midlands, sometimes struggle to clearly define our regional identity – the facts are clear, attracting inbound passengers to an airport which is not named after a city is extremely difficult.”
He added: “Having launched nine new routes and visited the destinations to promote inbound services to the UK by bmibaby, we are consistently finding that there is a complete lack of awareness of the location of East Midlands Airport.”
Mr Davis also said that East Midlands Airport – which is located on the border of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester – needs better integrated transport links.
