Consumer Reports cites top hotels
Ritz-Carlton, Walt Disney Resorts and Homewood Suites by Hilton were among top winners in Consumer Reports’ most recent Best Hotels Survey.
Findings included:
• In the luxury category, with rates running from $90 to $500, the Ritz and Four Seasons were chosen as best.
• In the upscale category, with rates running from $80 to $150, Embassy Suites and Harrahs’s were chosen as best along with Disney Resorts.
• In the moderate group, averaging from $60 to $100, Homewood Suites was joined by SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Wingate Inns.
• In the budget category of $40 to $70, top hotels were Sleep Inn, Extended Stay America, and Microtel Inn/Suites.
“Readers who stayed in a suite were more satisfied and thought they received better value than those who had a regular room,” reported Consumer Reports.
About seven out of 10 respondents were very or completely satisfied with their experience.
The biggest complaint was poor lighting. At least 18% of respondents cited that complaint for Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Howard Johnson, and Travelodge.
Excessive phone charges were cited by at least 45% of readers who named Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin.
