Convention centers cite trends for 2013
What does a conference planner dream of?
A convention center and CVB that work together, offer free WiFi, have plenty of space, use an innovative sales model, and move fast to meet the group’s needs.
That’s the vision offered up by a panel at the Convention Sales Professional International’s Annual Conference called "Tool Box for Success 2013."
Asked to identify the top trends for convention centers this year, the panel suggested:
1. Buildings and bureaus have to partner to win key contracts. Meeting professionals are looking for convention centers and CVBs that work together to provide a great package for their event.
2. Technology is moving faster than ever. Meeting professionals are looking for better and more economical, if not free, WiFi packages for their attendees. Attendees need, want, and expect free WiFi.
3. Meeting professionals are asking for more space for less money. Meeting planners are looking for ways to be more innovative, and often that requires more space than they traditionally needed.
4. Selling venue space based on the old tradeshow model no longer works. Convention sales professionals have to find new and innovative ways to sell space.
5. Convention sales professionals must be chameleons. They have to be nimble, agile, and quick to adapt to any circumstance that may come their way.
