Convention-goers in Cincinnati get double dose of Kentucky
Convention-wooers in Cincinnati point out that only the Roebling Bridge separates the city from Northern Kentucky — giving visitors and convention-goers easy access to the most attractive parts of two states. Cincinnati’s own location also helps.
“Many critical components of a meeting, including 1,800 committable rooms, can be found within a three-block radius” of Cincinnati,” says SmartMeetings.com.
In addition, a majority of the city’s top attractions are all within walking distance from hotels, including the recently renovated Central Fountain Square.
“Fountain Square is really our living room; everything happens here,” said Barrie Perks, VP, sales, Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is only about 15 minutes from downtown. Delta has a major hub here with more than 200 daily departures.
For conventions, the Duke Energy Convention Center has more than 750,000 square feet of function space with 34 breakout rooms. The 872- room Millennium Hotel Cincinnati has a business center and more than 27,000 square feet of convention space. The Millennium is linked to the 486-room Hyatt Regency Cincinnati which also has more than 33,000 square feet of meeting space.
The 158,000 square foot National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is a major attraction. “We just hosted an 800-person reception here. It is an incredible venue that is very thought provoking,” Perks said.
Another popular attraction is the Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds — the oldest team in baseball.
Convention events can be linked to the team when they are playing in town.
“The red can do that little extra touch to make groups feel welcome, such as letting them throw the first pitch,” Perks said.
PS: Visitors aren’t often aware of it, but Cincinnati’s Roebling Bridge is believed to have been the prototype for the more famous Brooklyn Bridge.
