Convicted Australian paedophile granted Royal Thai pardon
The Government of Thailand has announced that Bradley Pendragon the first Australian convicted of child sex offences in Thailand has been granted a Royal Pardon and could be freed from jail immediately.
It appears that some 25,000 pardons or reduced sentences have been granted to prisoners in Thai jails to mark the anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 60th anniversary on the throne.
Bernadette McMenamin, CEO of Child Wise, of which Travel Mole is a sponsor, the Australian arm of an international network fighting sex tourism and prominent campaigner against child sexual abuse, says 46-year-old Pendragon has served 11 years of a 15 year sentence for raping young girls and remains a danger to children around the world and should serve out the rest of his sentence.
She said that she was horrified Pendragon was being freed, and told ABC Radio, “My reaction to the pardon of Bradley Pendragon is one of shock but also horror and I believe that he is a danger to children around the world, to children in very vulnerable communities.”
Ms McMenamin, who has been following Pendragon’s case for a decade, said he had never expressed remorse for his crimes. “I’m not saying that he should stay in jail for the rest of his life, but I believe he should complete his sentence … he should not be released until the community, until the world can be sure that he will not reoffend.”
“We believe he is a serious risk to children around the world and that the Australian Federal Police should closely monitor this person and should liaise with their Asian counterparts to make sure that he cannot get close to other vulnerable children to abuse.”
Pendragon is believed to be the first Australian to benefit from a royal pardon in Thailand
