Couple in their 60s charged after violent airport scuffle causes flight delay
An argument over checking in baggage at a US airport descended into a violent scuffle resulting in the arrest of two passengers.
Police said 67-year-old Ida Shafir and 61-year-old Nick Bogomolsky were charged with resisting an officer with violence and trespassing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
When told they had to check in a bag as there would be no room on the flight for their carry-on luggage, they became argumentative, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.
After the pair refused to leave the desk, police were called and a scuffle quickly ensued. Two deputies were slightly injured and received medical attention.
Shafir was accused of biting a deputy while police said Bogomolsky tried to grab another deputy’s gun from his holster.
The flight was delayed due to the incident.
A Delta Air Lines spokesperson said the airline is working with law enforcement and cooperating with the investigation.
