Credit crunch, what credit crunch?

How have the last couple of weeks been booking-wise?  Busy, busy, busy.

Calls are plentiful, which is odd considering everyone is whining on about the cost of fuel and the credit crunch.

I think holidays are the one thing that people are reluctant to go without. For some people holidays are like an addiction. They will go without a new car, decorating the house but not their holidays.

I suppose for a lot of people, myself included, that’s what we work hard for all year and it’s our one time to actually relax.

I’m not saying people are spending the same amounts they used to, but they are spending.

They may be downgrading from a four-star to a three, hotel to self-catering or long haul to short haul. They may be ringing around for the best deals, but they are booking.

I have actually had families on saying that they will be having just one holiday this year, rather than two.

As l said, people will not go without a holiday. They are prepared to take the kids out of school in term time, and suffer the consequences with the school, just so they can get a more reasonable price. I have got to say l don’t blame them.

I can’t really see a massive increase in prices either due to the fuel. Yes, there are fuel supplements but the holidays are still affordable.

Whether this will all change over the coming months is yet to be seen. But at the moment l am enjoying the start of a bumper booking season.

There are some really great last minute deals around, you have just got to know where to find them.

I have promised myself to stay firmly rooted to my desk for the whole month of June, to work, work, work. So l am sure l will have stories to tell and opinions to air next time l report.
