The draw and venues have been announced for the 2015 World Cup cricket tournament, which is being split between Australia and New Zealand.

The tournament opens with some high profile matches. Sri Lanka takes on New Zealand in Christchurch and England faces Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 15.

A day later South Africa faces Zimbabwe in Hamilton and India plays Pakistan in Adelaide.

The final on March 29 will be played at the MCG, with semi-finals in Sydney and Auckland and quarters in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Wellington.

The 2015 World Cup will feature the 10 full member nations of the International Cricket Council plus Ireland, who have won qualification, and three other associate/affiliate members.

Tourism New Zealand chair Kerry Prendergast says the multi-national Cricket World Cup in 2015 provides a valuable opportunity "to once again showcase New Zealand on the global stage".

"The Rugby World Cup 2011 taught us that sporting fixtures like this not only encourage ‘super’ fans to travel but also provide the trigger for those already dreaming of visiting New Zealand to go out and book their trip," she said.
