Crisis forces Brits to stay at home
One in four Brits plan to spend their summer holiday in the UK because of the worsening economic crisis, according to new research from Thistle Hotels.
Holidaymakers also revealed they are frustrated with going abroad with 50 per cent claiming that delays, other passengers and lost luggage were the most irritating aspects of travelling.
However, the study of 1,000 adults found Brits are still not conscientious about the environment with one third saying they do not consider their carbon footprint when planning travel arrangements for their summer holiday.
Thistle Hotels chief operating officer Chris Gillet said: “Travelling abroad may guarantee better weather, but it has its downsides.
“Not only does it waste a considerable amount of time travelling, it can be a more expensive option with the rise in fuel surcharges, plus it has a greater impact on our environment than a holiday in the UK.â€
