Cruise line switches route to avoid violence in Mexican town

Crystal Cruises has made changes to its itineraries to avoid the Mexican port town of Mazatlán after increased reports of violence there.

Its ship, Crystal Symphony, was due to call in at the port on April 4 on its roundtrip Los Angeles ‘Treasures of Mexico’ voyage.

The new schedule means guests will now have an overnight call in Cabo San Lucas.

Subsequent days will provide travellers with a full day in Loreto and a half day in La Paz.

Full days in Puerto Vallarta and San Diego are still on the schedule.

“The safety and security of our guests and staff is always our top priority,” says Crystal international vice president of sales and marketing Philip Ordever.

“After monitoring the situation in Mazatlán for weeks, we simply feel far more comfortable with other ports of call in Mexico.”
