Cruise passenger shot dead on Margarita Island
A cruise passenger had been murdered on the Venezuelan island of Margarita while shopping for souvenirs.
Goldhahm Hors Kurt, a 76-year-old from Germany, had gone ashore on an excursion from the Carnival owned Aida Luna cruise ship when he was shot dead.
The El Universal newspaper said two armed robbers on a motorbike tried to rob the tourists and in the ensuing struggle Kurt was shot.
The Venezuela tourism minister Andres Izaarra tweeted his condolences to his 468,000 followers, saying: "We very much regret the incident in which a German tourist died in Margarita. Security forces are after the criminals."
