Cruise ships to return to Ensenada after unrest
Cruise ships will start making port calls again soon in Ensenada, Baja California.
The mayor of Ensenada, Armando Ayala Robles said Carnival Cruise Lines will return after skipping the port city due to recent unrest
The mayor confirmed Carnival ships are coming back after dropping Ensenada over security concerns for guests and crew.
The city suffered unrest, orchestrated by a cartel demanding some of its members were released from prison.
It threatened widespread violence across Northern Baja California leading to deployment of National Guard troops.
Many businesses closed early last weekend.
The State Department had advised Americans to avoid the region.
“I’m very happy they confirmed the rest of their scheduled arrivals and they trust in the actions we’ve implemented,” mayor Ayala Robles said.
“We reiterated the importance of the cruise ship arrivals to our city, and that the actions of a few do not reflect the hard-working people and hospitality in our region.”
Royal Caribbean also canceled stops in Ensenada, but it hasn’tt yet when it will resume.
