Cruises steaming for New York City

Saturday, 12 Dec, 2005 0

Cruises to New York traditionally included season trips to New England, but the area has recently added more new lines and a lot of diversification.

They include, among others:

  • Norwegian Cruise Line now has two ships based year-round in Manhattan. Sailings are mainly to the Caribbean.

  • Royal Caribbean next year will offer 9-night Caribbean cruises and 5-night Bermuda sailings.

  • New York next year will be home port for Holland America’s new Noordam. Cruises will go to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

  • Carnival Cruise Lines will have 8-night sailings next year that call on three ports: Tortola, St. Thomas and San Juan.

  • The Italian-based MSC Cruises plans to put the MSC Lirica year-round in New York, with Caribbean and Bermuda routes. Cruises to New England and Canada will also be offered.

Ships are based not only at the Westside piers in Manhattan, and also at Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ, and in Red Hook, Brooklyn, which opens next spring.
