Customs in last-minute talks to avert strike
Talks taking place between public sector union officials and Australian Customs management will determine the outcome of threatened strikes by border protection staff this week.
Staff at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are due to begin their 24-hour strike from midnight on Wednesday.
Customs staff at Brisbane, Darwin and Adelaide international airports will walk off the job for two hours on Thursday.
The strike is part of a national industrial action at international airports across the country if a pay dispute with the federal government cannot be resolved.
Community and Public Sector Union national secretary Nadine Flood said anyone collecting inbound international passengers on Thursday should factor in delays.
She said Customs management and CPSU delegates are having crisis talks aimed at resolving the bargaining impasse.
