DANTE to organise Fair Trade in Tourism forum at ITB
DANTE – Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nachhaltige TourismusEntwicklung (The Working Group on Sustainable Tourism Development) is organising a forum at ITB on Fair Trade in Tourism.
The aim of the forum will be to encourage dialogue about Fair Trade in Tourism among players from the industry – politicians, and NGOs as well as between the tourism industry and the tourists.
DANTE has set out the following questions which it hopes will be addresses at the forum:
How can fair trade work in a service sector as complex as tourism?
What do the individual players – service provides in the destinations, tour operators, tourists, but also politicians – have to contribute in order to advance step by step towards the promising concept of a “fair holiday”?
Could there be a compulsory label to cover the social aspects of a holiday package?
How does a holiday package need to be described, so that it will be clearly discernible as “fair”, so that tourists will be able to dis-tinguish it from other products?
