DC visitors on upswing
Visitors to Washington, DC, the nation’s capital, surpassed pre 9-11 levels for the first time.
Those numbers also continue to grow, says the Washington, DC Convention & Tourism Corp.
They credit the rising numbers in part to new attractions such as the National World War II Memorial.
The area hosted more than 17.7 million visitors last year, or an 8% increase over 2003. International visitation also increased by 2%.
The city’s hotel occupancy was running about 77%.
The new Washington Convention Center is proving to be a major catalyst for groups meeting here.
