De Vere to open three resorts in Scotland
Hotel group De Vere is to expand in Scotland by adding three new properties in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh to its Village Urban Resorts collection, representing an investment of £60 million and creating 350 new jobs in the country.
It said the new resorts, the first in Scotland, will replicate the ‘Black Box’ design of its most successful properties including Village Farnborough and Village Elstree.
Each resort will include a Velocity health and fitness centr. Eating and drinking facilities will include a Victory Chop and Ale House, and in association with De Vere’s strategic partners, a Starbucks Coffee House. Each property will also feature dedicated meetings and conferencing facilities and event space for weddings and other social gatherings.
Scottish-born CEO Robert Cook said: "We don’t currently have any presence for the De Vere Village Urban Resorts brand in Scotland, but there are great opportunities for business here.
" It’s a booming market at the moment – with major events like the Commonwealth Games taking place, there’s an even greater demand for hotel accommodation.
"We have identified Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh as the main hubs for tourism. What’s more, it’s easier for us to find top locations near to city centres in Scotland than south of the border – there is more space to build full service resorts and at a better price."
De Vere Village Urban Resorts plans to roll out further properties across the UK, focusing its sights next on university towns including York, Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol.
