Deadly heat wave may begin to ease off

Residents and travelers in the Southwest may get some much needed relief with deadly temperatures likely to ease off today.

The National Weather Service had posted extreme heat warnings across Southern California, southern Arizona and parts of Utah, but could ease off during Tuesday.

"It’s going to cool off noticeably," Ken Clark, a meteorologist at AccuWeather told Bloomberg.

Many parts of the Los Angeles basin will be about 10 degrees cooler, he said.

Four hikers, including a German national, died in Arizona on Sunday as Phoenix wilted in 118 degrees, posting an all time record.

A United Airlines flight operated by Mesa Airlines was forced to return to Houston on Sunday as the ground temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was too intense for it to land.

Two brush fires were still burning overnight close to Los Angeles prompting evacuations of hundreds of residents and a smoke advisory issued for Inland Empire.
