Delta Air Lines receives the first American made A220 jet
Delta Air Lines has taken delivery of the first US-made Airbus A220 jet.
A220 production began at the Mobile, AL plant in August 2019 and the A220’s inaugural flight took place in June.
Airbus says 400 US employees have now been trained on the A220 assembly line.
It is part of a large order for 95 aircraft for Delta, and the airline will become the first to operate both models of the plane: the A220-100 and A220-300.
It has already received about one-third of its order.
"The delivery of the first US-built A220-300 is a historic moment that highlights Airbus’ growing industrial footprint in North America and makes us all extremely proud. We look forward to seeing passengers delighted by the experience of traveling onboard this brand new A220-300 proudly built in Mobile, Alabama," said C. Jeffrey Knittel, CEO, Airbus Americas.
Other A220 customers awaiting delivery of aircraft include JetBlue and new airline Breeze Airways.
JetBlue placed a 60-plane order for the A220-300 and is due to take delivery of the first in December.
