Delta Air Lines sues bogus pet transit website
Delta Air Lines is seeking to shut down a website which claims to act on the airline’s behalf for customers wishing to transport pets on flights.
It says the DeltaPetTransit.com website has no affiliation with the airline after filing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Georgia.
The site features the Delta logo and stock images of its planes and violates trademark laws, it says.
It is also confusing for customers and solicits pet-shipment payments, Delta claims.
According to the complaint, it ‘advertises bogus pet air-transport services and dupes intended victims into believing that they are dealing with Delta and are tendering pet shipment-related payments and fees directly to Delta.’
However the airline’s legal team has had difficulty tracking down who is behind the mysterious website.
In the domain registration, fictitious contact details are listed including a bogus telephone number and the address of a town in Nevada that does not exist.
For this reason Delta has named the defendants as ‘John Does 1-25’ and vowed to track them down.
"We will always take action to defend our brand and prevent our customers from being confused and misled," said Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant.
